Are there recent articles that can help researchers and IRBs become more knowledgeable of social media-enabled research studies?

Take a look at a paper recently published in JMIR by CORE Network members entitled: Methods for Evaluating the Content, Usability, and Efficacy of Commercial Mobile Health Apps http://mhealth.jmir.org/2017/12/e190

And, we recently published results from our formative research involving focus groups with IRB members. The title is: Ethical and regulatory challenges of research using pervasive sensing and other emerging technologies: IRB perspectivesis- see latest issue of AJOB Empirical Bioethics, Issue 4 --- eprint link is here:

If you haven't read it yet, read the SAGE handbook of social media research methods. The book is very informative on the various ways social media can be used in research, and also discusses some of the more common ethical considerations.
